Overview

Clinicians, social workers, and school-based mental health staff in this workshop will learn how to incorporate the voices and provide responses in a local and community context to build trust, with the goal of removing roadblocks to mental health and community resources that address social determinants of health and overall well-being.

Learning Objectives:

Differentiate between a “one-size-fits-all” approach and differentiated mental health treatment for adolescents
Identify at least three factors that contribute to mistrust of mental health services among adolescents of less visible communities
Describe at least two strategies for incorporating adolescent voice and choice into mental health services and treatment
Explain how a “one-size-fits-all” approach can negatively affect engagement and treatment outcomes for adolescents
