100546 - Twice-Exceptional Learners: Summer Webinar Series for Teachers

The Virginia Department of Education’s (VDOE’s) Office of Special Education Instructional Services, in partnership with the Office of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) – Governor’s Schools and Gifted Education, will sponsor a three part 60-minute webinar series for gifted and special education teachers to support the learning and participation of twice exceptional (2e) learners in gifted education programs. These webinars are designed to enhance current understanding of the characteristics of twice exceptional learners, address instructional practices and encourage collaboration between professionals and parents as they address the needs of twice exceptional learners.
Each webinar will only be available to school division personnel. Gifted Education and Special Education resource teachers who provide services to twice-exceptional students are the primary target audience. The VDOE is seeking two to four individuals per school division. Attendees should register for each webinar. Each webinar can accommodate 200 individuals.
Webinar 1: June 30, 2021 1:30 pm-2:30 pm
2e 101- What does it mean to be 2e? Recognizing and understanding the characteristics of a Twice-Exceptional child.
Webinar 2: July 13, 2021 1:30 pm-2:30 pm
2e 201- What does it mean to teach a 2e child? Double the label, Double the Differentiation
Webinar 3: July 14, 2021 1:30 pm-2:30 pm
How can adults work together for a 2e child? Working with parents and collaboration strategies.
Space is limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis with consideration given to achieve equity across school divisions until all participant spaces are filled.
The registration deadline is Monday, June 28, 2021.
