Overview
Welcome to the Virginia Tech Institute for Leadership in Technology, where we offer a one-year, low-residency fellowship to a select group of rising leaders from around the world annually. The experience, designed for mid-career professionals from across fields and functions, culminates in an Executive Leadership Certificate from Virginia Tech - a timely credential grounded in the liberal arts - and the celebration of a new network of purposeful professionals committed to the humanities. Welcome to a new kind of leadership literacy for entrepreneurs, executives and evangelists in and around the technology landscape.
Virginia Tech’s Institute for Leadership in Technology fellowship commences in September of each year with each class of fellows spending two days immersed in the mountains of Blacksburg, Virginia as they embark on their mid-career humanities education and experience. Fellows continue their coursework, with faculty and one another, virtually and via written correspondence. Fellows gather again briefly in January for an illuminating immersion trip before meeting again in April, this time at Virginia Tech’s campus in Northern Virginia, with the U.S. capital as backdrop, for a two-day capstone in which credentials are issued and community is celebrated.

Blacksburg Residency : September 23-25, 2025
During this two-day, two-night retreat set on Virginia Tech’s campus nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, fellows from around the world will have a chance to meet one another, get to know faculty and hear from some of the world’s leading advocates of the humanities in technology.
Miami Residency: Jan 27-29,2026
During this two-day, two-night retreat set in an inspired city known for its commitment to the arts, fellows from around the world will have a chance to grow their relationships with one another, meet with local leaders and leave inspired by the role the humanities play in cultivating place-based leadership.
Alexandria Residency: Apr 28-30, 2026
During this two-day, two-night gathering set in the backdrop of the U.S. capital of Washington, D.C, fellows from around the world will have a chance to reflect on all the ways they’ve grown their understanding of leadership in technology and beyond - and present their original creative scholarship to one another, and to the Institute’s faculty and advisory board. The gathering will end with a convocation in which Executive Leadership Certificates from Virginia Tech will be conferred and the formation of new community will be celebrated.
