The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources is excited to host the 49th Annual Meeting in Roanoke, VA, February 22-24, 2026

The Southeast Deer Study Group (SEDSG) has proudly served as the premier platform for deer researchers, managers, and enthusiasts from across the southeast and beyond to exchange knowledge and advance conservation efforts for over 48 years. Our annual meeting is a cornerstone event where wildlife professionals and students gather to share research and address challenges in managing one of our most cherished wildlife species—the white-tailed deer.

The theme of this year’s meeting is Ruminating on deer, hunting, and what’s next: Are we at a tipping point? As southeastern states face increasing challenges of hunter decline, urbanization, decreasing hunter access, and hunter selectivity, we “ruminate” on the future of recreational hunting for deer management. We hope our thought-provoking plenary will spark discussion of the challenges we currently face, the ones we anticipate, and potential additional or alternative strategies that may be warranted to accomplish deer management objectives in an ever-changing world.

Companion (Tuesday banquet only): $70
