100709 - Globalization Business Skills, Diversity Awareness, and Entrepreneurship Workforce Development Project in Zambia
Overview
The Virginia Tech Career and Technical Education program has been awarded a grant by Fulbright-Hayes for a study abroad program entitled Globalization Business Skills, Diversity Awareness, and Entrepreneurship Workforce Development project in Zambia.
Twelve participants will journey to Zambia for a month-long trip to experience the teaching and learning of CTE in a culturally different setting. Participants will interact with Zambian students, teachers, administrators, and business/general local community members to gain first-hand knowledge about the content, form, and goals of CTE and the relationship between CTE and the nation’s economy.
Agenda/Schedule
The overall goals of this research project are to enable participants to:- Study the dynamics of the cultural, educational (academic and vocational), business/industry (formal and informal) and governmental sectors of Zambia and how these sectors affect one another and entrepreneurship workforce development within the country;
- Explore, identify, and analyze global skills needed to be successful in business and in particular small businesses;
- With immersion in the informal business sector and education sector, determine strategies for enhancing workforce development training for the informal business sector in Zambia;
- With immersion in various sectors of a different country and its culture, examine personal awareness and beliefs concerning diversity
- Develop collegial professional relationships with Zambians to exchange ideas, materials, curriculum, etc. on a continual basis for a long period of time
