Overview

Warren Bennis, one of the leading authorities on leadership in America today, states that behind every successful leader, one will typically find a second in command who is a complimentary force to the leader. The new watchword for this individual is Co-leader, and leader/co-leader partnerships are spread throughout high performance organizations which value leadership inclusion and collaboration. This program uses a musical partnership to study and evaluate the processes related to collaborative leadership as well as creative collaboration.

John Whitlow and Marc Carraway both have extensive careers serving successfully in executive and leadership roles within private and public sector organizations. They also are highly successful musicians, having performed on a national and international level, toured extensively in the folk music world and having released 7 recordings between them. For the past 27 years they have performed together as the acoustic duo Scuffletown, in what one critic calls “a true musical gem - world class entertainment full of laughter, mischief and just straight ahead great music”. Scuffletown will provide musical performances throughout this program, while also engaging participants in a discussion of how Whitlow and Carraway apply the principles of co-leadership and leadership collaboration to their musical partnership, and how these principles also apply to developing effective leadership partnerships within the workplace.

Leadership, Co-Leadership & Power Partnerships purpose is to engage participants in a learning program that promotes their understanding related to developing effective power partnerships, and to have them apply this information to power partnerships within their own organizations.

At the conclusion of the program, participants will have completed the following in accordance with the information presented:

  • Evaluated a musical performance by Scuffletown in relationship to the concepts associated with Power Partnerships
  • Discussed the collaborative roles of Leader/Co-leader in Power Partnership
  • Gained an understanding of the use of the 4 Complementary Power Skills in leadership partnerships
  • Applied the information discussed in the program to the leader/co-leaderships within their organization.
