ExC-ELL: Expediting Reading Comprehension for English Language Learners. The virtual training will be held over 2 weeks after school hours to minimize classroom disruption. The training will consist of four, 2 hours sessions with assignments in-between each session.  The training was developed by Dr. Margarita Calderón and Dr. Montenegro, and they will present, model, and engage participants in research-based instructional strategies for integrating academic language, reading comprehension, and writing strategies into the content areas. 

This training is recommended for school teams of up to four individuals to include core content teachers in grades 2-12, EL teachers, and a school administrator. 

 

This virtual training will consist of 8 total hours (4 x 2-hour sessions over 2 weeks).  The dates of these virtual sessions will be October 22, 23, 29, & 30. Training on each day will begin at 3:30 p.m. and adjourn at 5:30 p.m.  The expectation is that participants are present at each of the 2 hours sessions for a total of 8 hours.

 

Cut-off date: Tuesday, September 22, 2020.

You must be able to attend all 4 sessions. The Zoom link for training will be sent out 1 week prior to the start of each session. 

 

Cancellation Policy: Another person may be substituted for this program. Please e-mail pjeneen7@vt.edu to request a substitution. Due to materials being shipped to individual participants, if substitutions are made after September 22nd, substitutes will not receive materials. 

 

Additional Information:

  • This is a virtual session. All participants will require a laptop and a Zoom account. For those who already have Zoom installed, please make sure to update to the latest version - THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT.

 

  • All necessary literature, materials, and instructions to access the virtual session will be sent to you prior to the training.
