Overview

While refugees are typically a small percentage of English Learners in U.S. schools, those that we do have often have complex backgrounds and needs. Do you have students from Afghanistan, Congo, Bhutan/Nepal, Burma, Syria, Iraq, Somalia, or other war-torn countries? If so, this training is for you! This course provides valuable information on how you can support your refugee students and families as they integrate and adjust to the U.S. overall, and specifically with education.

Attendees should include: counselors, administrators, school psychologists and social workers, family liaisons, homeless liaison, EL teachers and leaders, teachers.

This is an asynchronous course facilitated through English Learner Portal and Immigrant Connections. You will receive correspondence regarding your log in information directly from English Learner Portal and Immigrant Connections closer to the course date. You will have from November 1, 2021 - December 3, 2021 to complete the course.

All materials (readings, videos, etc.) are provided in each lesson.

Space is limited to 65 participants for this course. Once capacity is met, a waitlist will be available.
