Overview

The Virginia Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Instructional Services is seeking fifty 4th through 12th grade general education and special education teachers to participate in Unlocking Big Words: Strategies for Decoding Multisyllabic Words Pilot professional development. This event is designed to address the needs of older students who struggle with decoding and determining the meaning of multisyllabic words. Participants will learn how to use the principles of syllabication and morphology in order to build fluency and comprehension in their struggling readers, including those with specific learning disabilities. This professional development event will be facilitated by VDOE and TTAC staff, along with practicing professionals in the field.
