Learn how to create immersive sound and music at the 2025 Spatial Audio Tidepool, featuring the world-leading high-density loudspeaker arrays at Virginia Tech. The Spatial Audio Tidepool (SpaAT) is a two-session immersive gathering for audio professionals to learn the techniques of sound spatialization.

Session One: is focused on experiential instruction, covering stereo, quadraphonic, 5.1, octophonic, and then onto high density loudspeaker arrays (HDLAs) including the 24.4 channel Perform Studio, the 32 channel Tesseract, and finally the 140 channel Cube system. Session One runs June 2-4, 2025. Early fee starting at $750.

Session Two: is for participants to realize their own immersive sound projects on Virginia Tech HDLA systems, with individual guidance from the instructors. Session Two is limited to a maximum of 10 participants and runs June 5-7, 2025. Early fee starting at $1350.

Participants may enroll in either one or both sections, subject to availability. Participants will receive Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for completion of either session. CEUs will be awared in the form of a digital badge, which can be proudly displayed on select social media platforms.

A block of hotel rooms has been reserved at the Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center. To make a reservation, call the hotel directly at 540.231.8000 and ask for the Spatial Audio Tidepool Lodging Block.

A shuttle service will be provided for morning and evening transportation between the hotel and the Moss Arts Center.

Refund and Cancellation Policy: Refund requests must be received 14 calendar days prior to the program start date. A $90 administrative fee will be deducted from all refunds. Requests should be sent by email or by initiating a drop request through the student portal in our online registration system. Please note: refunds will not be issued for no-shows or for cancellations received on or after the program start date. In the unlikely event that this program is cancelled or postponed due to insufficient enrollments or unforeseen circumstances, the university will fully refund registration fees but cannot be held responsible for any other expenses, including cancellation or change charges assessed by airlines, hotels, travel agencies, or other organizations.
