Overview

Fundamentals of Asset Management is the first course in a series of three courses that constitute Virginia Tech's Essentials of Asset Management Certificate. This self-paced course provides an understanding of the existing frameworks available for establishing an asset management program and creates a foundation for successive modules to follow.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to understand:

The basics of current Asset Management (AM) Program Frameworks and Standards
How to employ AM as a business process improvement
The history of the development of AM practices in the US water industry
How to develop and populate the asset registry using an asset hierarchy and data standards
Assess the condition of assets and linking decay curve with Condition Assessment
How to estimate Business Risk Exposure and what mitigation strategies are available for AM
How to formulate core Operations and Maintenance strategies including predictive, preventative and corrective maintenance
Potential funding approaches to implement Capital and Operations and Maintenance strategies
The basic components for developing an AM Plan

Refund and Cancellation Policy:
Refund requests must be received 14 calendar days prior to the program start date. A $30 administrative fee will be deducted from all refunds. Please note: refunds will not be issued for no-shows or for cancellations received on or after the program start date.
